As you should know, we have 2 little girls, and the magic of Christmas had only began to manifest in them. For that reason we try to make Christmas as special as we possibly can, without spoiling them completely rotten. This year, I made an advent calendar for them. Mostly so that they can keep track of the days before Christmas, and hopefully stop making me go insane with the constant “is it almost time?” routine, but also so that they can feel the joy of receiving. If you don’t know how good it feels to get something, how will you ever give to others? In my advent calendar we put little pieces of inexpensive jewelry, hair accessories, cutex, lipbalm, and a few small toys. Small things that will give them hours of pleasure. Nothing expensive, and nothing that I am going to cry about if they lose or break it. Not that they are allowed to do that, just saying. If you want to follow suit, this is what you will need:

  • 24 clean and empty toilet paper rolls

  • long piece of ribbon, long enough for the 24 finished rolls to fit on

  • something to hang the ribbon on, on from

  • 24 small gifts that will fit in the rolls

  • ribbon off cuts to decorate the rolls with

  • stickers or scrapbooking accessories to decorate the rolls with

  • a thick marker

  • strong glue or a glue gun

  • scissors to cut the ribbon etc.

As easy as that! I a going to try and keep mine in one piece so that I can hopefully reuse it next year. But if not, at least I gave a few things a second life!
