The kids have been home now for close to 4 months. We have painted, baked, swam, beaded, you name it. The one thing that they consistently want to do? Help make breakfast. Every morning I have to think of something that they can help me with. This something has to comply with a few things:

  1. It needs to be quick
  2. It needs to make as little dirty dishes as possible
  3. It needs to be easy enough for the kids to help with, and have enough steps that both can have a turn
  4. It needs to be nutritious so that they can at least start the day healthy and well-fed

As you can imagine, not many recipes tick all of those boxes. But this one, this one works. And as an added bonus – the kids actually finish the food!

The ingredients

Before I give you the recipe, let me first tell you why I choose the ingredients that I did.

Wazoogles breakfast bombs in Chocolate eruption

I add this to really amp up the chocolate flavour, and also for the seeds (good fats).

I love this product, mostly because I know this is as close to a meal in a cup as I can get. Plus the kids love the purple colour and the fact that it has unicorns on the packaging!

Pick and Pay Double cream plain yogurt

Full of good fats, just what growing minds need, the yogurt helps to give the smoothie body and to keep the kids fuller for longer.

Full cream milk

Just a dash to make the mixture liquid enough so that the nutri-blender can work its magic.

You can add fruits, chopped veggies, nut milk, nut butter, etc. to make the smoothie even more nutritious and tastier, but I work with what I have and in our current situation we are not spoilt for choice 🙂

Kid-friendly chocolate breakfast smoothies

Very easy

  • prep time: 2 min
  • cook time: 3 min
  • total time: 5 min

Servings: Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 level scoop protein powder
  • 250 ml yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml)protein bombs
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) milk

Instructions:

  1. Add all of the ingredients to your blender of choice, blend until smooth and thick. Serve.
