Relaxing blend: The essential oil collection
In this day and age it feels like we are always rushing - rushing to work, then home, then to get dinner done and the homework and the housework and then to bed. Always rushing, and it is dam exhausting. Then if you are lucky, once a year you go on your annual holiday. Just to rush home so that your life can start again. Somewhere in all of this we need to schedule a time that we can unwind and relax. Even if it is just a few minutes every day. To help you relax and recharge, make your own essential oils blend. Our senses are amazing, and our smell is directly linked to our memories and emotions. If you can “train” your brain to associate relaxation with a certain scent you can train yourself to reap the benefits by just breathing in the smell. The benefits are plenty, and immediate. E.g. by diffusing the scent in your car on the way to a big meeting, you “trick” your body into lowering your blood pressure, calming your beating heart, giving you clarity and focus. It is basically a holiday in a bottle!
Essential oils are great for a long long list of things, and relaxation is one of them. Some of the oils that are especially great for relaxing body and mind are lavender, frankincense, cedarwood, ylang ylang, marjoram, vetiver, roman chamomile, and the citrus oils like lemon and orange. Blend a few of them together to get the best results, and to also have a scent that is pleasing on the nose. Once blended, you can make use of a few different “delivery” modes, i.e.
Diffuse – add 5 drops of your chosen blend to your diffuser
Topically – in a rollerball bottle, mix 15 drops of your blend with 30ml of chosen carrier oil. Apply to the back of your neck, your temples, or wrists
Smell – mix your chosen oils and inhale the scent. This can be done as many times per day as you like, or as you need
Bath – add 15 drops of your chosen blend to 30ml of carrier oil. Add to your bath water. Or add 15 drops of your chosen blend to 1 cup Epsom salts. Shake well. Add to your bath water
Spray – place 1 tsp Epsom salt in a 20ml spray bottle. Add 15 drops of your chosen blend and shake vigorously. Top up with filtered water. Spray as needed.
